Bahir Dar University (BDU), Ethiopia

Bahir Dar Institute of Technology (BiT) at Bahir Dar University is Ethiopia’s pioneering engineering and technology institute, dedicated to advancing technical education, research and innovation. It offers a broad portfolio of engineering and applied‐science degrees at all levels – contributing to BDU’s 219 total programs (69 undergraduate, 118 master’s and 32 PhD programs). BiT has forged strong international partnerships (for example, collaborating on a University of Connecticut–led water/food security research project and with the UK’s Royal Academy of Engineering on industry‐linked innovation challenges). Reflecting its recognized quality, four of BiT’s engineering programs became the first in Ethiopia to earn ABET accreditation in 2024.
